The book analyses some methodological aspects of maritime network routing, freight demand modelling and container terminal management from different points of view. Regarding LNG energy, it shows evidence for new logistics routing with increasing interest in
equity trades and utilities from major suppliers. The interaction between neural network methodologies and random utilities model, such as the McFadden behavioral approach, are interesting in order to
solve the problem of container routing optimization. The results of this application can be considered as an experimental application in the maritime network, in the light of bunker cost optimization. The book proposes, for demand analysis, a simple code based on O-D
trade data observation for investment evaluation on the basis of assumptions of future infrastructure and service improvement. This way, investments can be simply identified using the quick assignment
method, without detailed and laborious assignment models. Finally, some aspects of container terminal management have been traced, such as by GIS methodologies, for an efficient control of container
intermodality in hub transhipment ports.

Mauro Catalani is Professor of Transport Economics and Maritime Transport Network and Logistics at Parthenope University of Naples. He is also a member of WCTR, AET and IAME. His main research activity is also directed towards the transportation planning sector.
